Saluting a wonderful 50 year career of stellar performances, ‘Leave Your Hat On’ is a hot new show paying tribute to the late, great and truly unique Joe Cocker.
Joe Cocker was a reggae-loving working class english rock, blues and soul singer who rose to fame in the 1960s. He was known for his incredible gritty voice, unusual stage movements, and his powerhouse re-imaginings of popular songs, including several from the Beatles who said he could use any of their songs.
Cocker’s cover of “With a Little Help from My Friends” reached number one in the UK in 1968. He performed the song live at Woodstock in 1969 and that brilliant performance together with the amazing “Mad Dogs and Englishmen” Tour of the World with Leon Russell etched his name forever in the popular imagination.
His 1974 song “You Are So Beautiful”, topped the US charts and then in 1983 he received a Grammy Award for his US number one “Up Where We Belong”, a duet with Jennifer Warnes. His 1987 album “Unchain My Heart” was nominated for a Grammy Award, and “One Night of Sin” was also a commercial success, surpassing “Unchain My Heart” in sales. Over the years he collaborated with many songwriters and producers including the fantastic “Sheffield Steel” album which was produced by reggae superstars Sly Dunbar and Robbie Shakespeare.
“Leave Your Hat On” celebrates the spirit and sound of Joe Cocker and honours his legend.
The show features all those killer songs such as ‘Feelin Alright’, ‘Hitchcock Railway’, ‘The Letter’, ‘Delta Lady’, ‘You Are So Beautiful’, ‘Unchain My Heart’ and of course the title of the show ‘You Can Leave Your Hat On’ to name a few.
After seeing the show rapt audiences have described the “Leave Your Hat On” band as being “full of energy and passion”.
The band formed July 2015 and has played to packed houses ever since.
